About The Producer: Tariq Nelson
Tariq Nelson brings decades of entertainment industry experience to The Playlist Lounge. Beginning his career as a DJ in the Edenwald projects of the Bronx, Tariq honed his craft in the early hip-hop scene before serving in the U.S. Army. Following his service, he built Database Recording Studio in the ‘90s, a hotbed for emerging hip-hop artists, while studying Video Production at Bronx Community College.
His career took off when he joined B.U.D.S Record Distribution, where he mastered music production, distribution, and promotion, working on some of the most iconic remixes and party records of the time. Tariq later shifted to event production and marketing with Emerald Entertainment & Sports, gaining invaluable experience organizing major concerts, including the Bermuda Neo Soul Festival. Today, he heads F.A.M.E. Academy, a full-service event production company specializing in sound, lighting, and live entertainment for top-tier clients.
The Vision Behind The Playlist Lounge
Tariq launched The Playlist Lounge to amplify the voices of independent artists who often lack the visibility and resources enjoyed by their mainstream counterparts. "Artists signed to major labels have all the support in the world," he shares. "There are worthy indie artists who are overlooked only due to access and opportunities."
Through The Playlist Lounge and other F.A.M.E. Academy productions, Tariq aims to bridge this gap, elevating serious indie talent and cultivating a network that gives these artists the exposure they deserve.
